Abstract
Amiodarone has been used for more than half a century, and has multiple electrophysiological and hemodynamic effects. It is
one of the most effective antiarrhythmics but it has potential adverse effects (some of them serious). It is useful in the
treatment of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, and in preventing them. Its mechanisms of action, the general
pharmacology, the current indications and the main clinical trials are reviewed.
