Abstract
Thrombocytapheresis involves the removal of excess platelets via an automated centrifugal apheresis machine. Evidence is
scarce for the clinical efficacy of this procedure, as controlled trials have not been done. We present a case of
thrombocytapheresis that was followed by rapid platelet reduction and clinical improvement in a female in her seventies with
severe post-splenectomy thrombocytosis and dural sinus thrombosis in the setting of accelerated phase polycythemia vera.
